September Newsletter & Calendar of Events
What's Happening Here (at the Inn)
During August, we had the hardwood floors in the Lilac and Dogwood Rooms sanded and resurfaced. The lighter color of the original heart pine looks great. In September, we plan to do the same for the floor in the Magnolia Room as well as the upstairs hallway.
On Saturday, September 8th, we welcome the Hawthorne family and friends for a surprise birthday party.
On Thursday, September 13th from 6-8 pm, we have donated our facilities to the Asheville Humane Society for a Yappy Hour fundraising event. Anyone is welcome to attend and to bring their well-behaved pet(s) on a leash. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased when you arrive.

August Contest Winner
Congratulations to our August Essay Contest winner from Jacksonville, NC (name has been withheld)! The winner won a 2-night mid-week stay in either our Azalea or Magnolia Room for submitting the following essay on why he believed he deserved the get away from it all:
"It's not a question of deserving to me. I would only like to enjoy a few of the liberties that I have chosen to leave behind when I, much like anyone else in uniform, volunteered in the service of my country. I cringe at the idea of letting anyone think that I feel any more special or deserving than the next person, but for personal reasons I really want to get away from it all for a while when I return from this deployment. Those personal reasons are simple, my family needs some time well spent with me.
My beautiful wife and I have two lovely daughters, whom we spend all of our time with when I am at home in the states. This time is highly treasured as it must compete with re-deployment training, pre-school and church commitments, and much of the other things that normal couples experience while raising a family. Therefore, time spent together in a romantic setting such as in your beautiful bed and breakfast, would be most appreciated and refreshing.
Deserving is not the question for me. If anyone deserves more, I would have to say that it is the spouses who have to carry on when we are away doing our duty. Their duty is more sacred than ours I believe; raising a family and providing peace and comfort to little ones. I can only hope that my duty provides the same peace and comfort to other families and their little ones. Many of which I will never get to know.
For my wife."
I received a lot of essays and all of them were wonderful and inspiring to read. As the mother of a teenage son who talks constantly of going into the military when he graduates high school in a few years, this one touched me a little more. However, I would like to thank each and every person who took the time to share a piece of their story with me. I hope to meet you all some day.
