October Newsletter & Calendar of Events

What's Happening Here (at the Inn)
The leaves have started to change (our parking lot needs constant blowing from all the dead Sycamore leaves). October is the busiest month of the year for us. We're already over half full, but we still have some mid-week openings. Check out our Availability chart link through the Reservations Page to see what we have.

The Inn looks great with all of our fall decorations. Now that the nights have gotten chilly, we've brought out the heavy down comforters for the beds and the rooms with gas fireplaces are feeling cozy.

If you are coming to Asheville to visit the Biltmore Estate, be prepared for crowds. Every Saturday from now through New Year's will have Timed Entry to get into the house. This means that when you arrive to the house, you will be given a ticket with an entry time. Since everyone can't crowd in at once, they allow a certain number per hour so you may have an hour or so wait to get in. Don't worry, there's still plenty to see like the gardens and the conservatory or the winery. Bring good walking shoes (I do not recommend high heels) and a jacket to stay warm.

September Contest Winner

Congratulations to our September Contest winner, Doug Murphy. Doug won a $50 Blake House Inn Gift Certificate for answering the following question correctly:
Question:
Where did the Labor Day holiday originate from and when was the first holiday celebrated?
Answer:
Labor Day originated with the Central Labor Union as a way to create a day off for the working man. The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated in 1882 and it became a national holiday by an act of Congress in 1894, making it a holiday on the first Monday in September.

No permit required. What milepost marker along the Blue Ridge Parkway offers a view of Looking Glass Rock?
