What's Happening Here (at the Inn)
Blake House Inn is one of ten Asheville accommodations participating in the AsheCache Geocaching Treasure Hunt (www.ashevilletreasurehunt.com). Go to the AsheCache link to find out more about this program and how you can find hidden treasures in and around Asheville.

During May, we had brand new hardwood floors installed in the Breakfast Room and the original hardwood floors in the Holly Room were sanded and restained. Both look great. In June, we are having the carpet in the living room and kitchenette in the Carriage House Guest Suite replaced with Pergo laminate flooring. We're also making plans to replace the shower unit in the Magnolia Room bathroom.

The flowers are really starting to bloom around the property and in May we've seen lilies, azalea, pansies, peonies, and roses. We planted some gardenia bushes at the edge of the parking lot and a few purple azalea bushes in front of the house. We've also cleaned out the waterfall which had been sitting dormant all winter and it seems to be working just fine.

We'll be busy Father's Day weekend with a wedding and reception at the Inn so we are preparing to have 150 guests for the event. June weekends seem to be filling up quickly this year so get your reservation in before all the rooms are gone!

On a lighter note, we had air conditioning installed in the three original bedrooms in the main house (the Magnolia, Dogwood, and Lilac Rooms). In May, we are having the hardwood floors resurfaced and stained in the Holly Room. We're going to have new hardwood floors installed in the Breakfast Room and we'll be replacing the carpet in the living room of the Carriage House Guest Suite with laminate flooring.

May Contest Winner
Congratulations to Larry Sims, our May Contest winner! Larry won a $50.00 Blake House Inn gift certificate for answering the following questions correctly:

Questions:
  1. What mountain has the highest peak east of the Mississippi River? Mount Mitchell
  2. How tall is this peak (in feet)? 6,684 feet
The state park named after the mountain in #1 is part of the Black Mountains, formed more than a billion years ago. Although the Black Mountain range is higher, its length and breadth do not equal the Blue Ridge or Great Smoky Mountains. The range is shaped like a 'J' and is only 15 miles from end to end. (This information was taken from www.ils.unc.edu/parkproject/visit/momi/history.html.)
